Access Statement
Station House, Lanchester
Station House was formerly Lanchester Railway Station. It was built in 1852 and decommission in 1965. The original platform acts as a wonderful terrace and overlooks the Lanchester Valley Walkway, previously the railway line which is part of an extensive network of Railway Paths which are fantastic for walkers, cyclists and horse-riders.

Station House is situated in the heart of Lanchester village off the main A691 to Durham (6 miles) and the A1.
​
Buses 15 or 15A between Consett and Durham stop at Lanchester village. Buses run every 30 mins and Station House is a 4 minute walk from the bus station in Lanchester. When alighting from the bus look turn to your left (Lilydale pet Shop is straight ahead) walk to the road and turn right. Station House entrance is 100 meters along the road and on your right.

Railway stations are Durham (6 miles west) and Newcastle (14 miles north).

Our holiday cottage, The Waiting Room is pet friendly, regrettably our rooms are not.
​
We are adult only and do not accept anyone under 18 years, divers, stag/hen/wedding or similar groups.
​
Due to the age and architecture of the building we cannot accommodate wheelchairs. All bedrooms are accessed via stairs.
Arrival and Car Parking
Station House offers private on-site parking.
​
Guest access to Station House Bed & Breakfast is by the main door on the front of the building. Access to our holiday cottage (The Waiting Room) is from the terrace (Old Station Platform) at the rear of the building.
​
The driveway is unmade, gravelled in part with a gradient. We ask that guests are careful when driving out of Station House onto the road as there is a public footpath that is adjacent to the property.
Assistance with luggage is offered if required
Outside and Garden
Guests have access to the terrace and garden. There are steps leading to the terrace and garden at each end of the house. Our holiday cottage, The Waiting Room has its own seating on the terrace and picnic table for outside eating. There are chairs in various parts of the garden for guest use.
Public Areas – Bed and Breakfast Guests
The main entrance is at the front of the property. Bed and Breakfast guests are given keys to this door as well as their room key.

There is a bell on the desk in the hall to call for assistance. Emergency `forgotten’ supplies such as dental and shaving kits are available on request.
​
A door leads from the communal lounge to the terrace (old station platform). This door will be unlocked and accessible for guests during the summer months.
Dining Room – Bed and Breakfast Guests
The dining room is accessed from the bottom of the stairs, through a door and is used for breakfast between the hours of 8.00 am and 9.30 am (half hourly slots to choose from and earlier times by prior arrangement).

The dining room has a large communal table (maximum 4 guests) and a wood burning stove which may be lit during the colder months and has very hot surfaces.
​
Breakfast request forms are provided for guests each night to allow you to make your choices as all breakfasts are freshly cooked-to-order.
Please place completed forms in the basket on the desk in the hallway.
​
Guests with special dietary requirements or allergies are asked to inform us in advance and we will do everything we can to accommodate these.
​
Breakfast is served on one large table in the dining room, with staggered breakfast times.
Stairs and Landing – Bed and Breakfast Guests
Stairs lead up to the first floor guest bedrooms.
There are 17 steps, with a banister on the left hand side.
​
The stairs and landing are carpeted and emergency lighting situated on first floor landing which automatically operates in the event of a power cut.
Bed and Breakfast Rooms – Station House
Free Wi-Fi is available, and the access code is in each room, located in the guest information folder.
​
Guest rooms are equipped with hand-held emergency lights/torches. Instructions for use in the event of power cuts are in the guest information folders.
​
We have smoke detectors, on the landing and at the bottom of the stairs.
​
There is an emergency lighting at the top and bottom of the stairs should there be a power cut.
​
All bedrooms have a Nespresso coffee machine, a 32” Smart wall-mounted television with Freeview with a remote control, chairs, a cordless kettle, complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits.
​
Guest rooms are en-suite with a shower and toilet.
​
Westbound has a king size bed and an opening sash window in both the bedroom and ensuite.
​
Eastbound is a double room with a double bed and has an opening sash window in both the bedroom and ensuite.
​
There are hairdryers and heat mats (for hair straighteners/tongs) in all guest rooms as well as shoe shine sponges and a clothes brush.
Holiday Cottage – The Waiting Room
The Waiting Room has an open plan lounge diner with a wood burning stove.
Guests have use of the log burner.
​
The kitchen diner is fully equipped with a fridge, hob, oven/grill. A toaster is also provided. There is no microwave on site.
The kitchen is also equipped with an Nespresso coffee machine, a cordless kettle, complimentary tea/coffee and biscuits.
​
The lounge has a large television with Freeview and Sky Q (No Sky Sport) with a remote control and comfy seating.
​
The kitchen has a small glass dining table with seating for two.
​
Stairs lead down to the double bedroom. There are 12 steps, with a banister on the left hand side.
The stairs are carpeted and emergency lighting situated is fitted which automatically operates in the event of a power cut.
​
The Waiting Room has a double bed, built in wardrobe, chest of drawers and ensuite bathroom with bath and shower over.
There is a hairdryer and heat mat (for hair straighteners/tongs) in the bedroom as well as shoe shine sponge and a clothes brush.
Additional Services
Laundry and drying facilities are available on request for a small charge for both Bed and Breakfast guests and those staying in The Waiting Room.

Pet Sitting and Grocery shopping service available on request for guests in The Waiting Room.
Additional Information
Evacuation procedure in the event of a fire: Being an old railway station we are spoilt for windows and doors.
The escape route is via any of the rear doors and windows which are all easily accessible.
There is emergency lighting throughout.
The assembly point is on the grass at the north west end of the property at the head of the drive.

Dogs are not to be left alone in the bedrooms. Dogs can be walked in our garden or on the terrace and we are a minute away from the Lanchester Valley Walkway. Dog bowls are available on request.
​
Mobile phone networks usually work well both inside and outside the property.
​
Station House has a strict no-smoking policy within the building. If guests wish to smoke, then this is permitted in the garden well away from the property.
